Providing a safe work environment for everyone is our primary concern at Manhattan. Both, clients and workers benefit from Manhattan’s proven safety program. We firmly believe that a safe work place is the key to operational excellence and eliminates injuries and property damage with the additional benefit of reducing operating costs. Our philosophy is to never let up in our safety efforts and work toward achieving our best every day.

  • Manhattan Construction is a national 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, and 2011 STEP Diamond Award winner. The Diamond award is highest honor in the Associated Builders and Contractors Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) awards program.
  • Manhattan Construction is an ABC Accredited Quality Contractor (eleven consecutive years).
  • Our safety success has been recognized among all industries. Manhattan is the first Commercial Building Contractor to be honored with an Award of Excellence by the Oklahoma Department of Labor for our outstanding safety program. 
  • In 2010, the Oklahoma Department of Labor recognized Manhattan again with an Award of Excellence in the Large Employer category. 
  • In 2010, Manhattan was honored by the Associated General Contractors of Texas for our outstanding safety program which resulted in zero lost work days in 2009.
  • Our Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is nearly half the national average. The low rate provides access to reduced insurance premiums and is an excellent report card of our historical safety performance proving effectiveness of our safety program.

Our Program – Above and Beyond

Going above and beyond to eliminate accidents is the aim everyday for everyone on a Manhattan job site. Our safety program exceeds OSHA requirements raising the bar on the commitment to safety.

We have a culture of safety. Excellence in safety is not a goal, it is an expectation. We establish this expectation from the start. Safety training is an integrated part of Manhattan’s new employee orientation program. Every employee receives the on-site training prior to working on a project.

We provide OSHA 30-hour training in-house to our employees, addressing each sub-part of the OSHA standards. In our training we examine the components of Manhattan’s Safety Program and how they exceed OSHA standards.

On all Manhattan project sites, weekly “Toolbox Talks” are held with all employees where safe work practices are discussed. We require that our subcontractors attend these weekly safety meetings and document that their employees attend as well.

Our project teams are expected to lead by example, putting safety first in their daily work activities. For each of our projects, a site specific project safety plan is developed, taking into account the specific safety requirements and environment of the project. This plan outlines the responsibilities relating to safety for everyone on the project. We require our subcontractors to have safety plans in place as well.

Our safety principles are firm and our safety program is backed by company policy. We are fully committed to a drug-free work environment through both pre-employment screening and random drug testing for all employees.
