Oklahoma State Capitol Dome - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
When Manhattan completed the original Capitol Building in 1919, budget constraints and a shortage of building materials did not allow for a dome to be constructed. Nevertheless, the necessary foundations to support a dome were added at that time in hopes that one day a dome would be added. Construction of the 80-foot diameter by 140-foot high done began in April 2001 and was completed by Nov. 16, 2002, Statehood Day. The dome is steel super structure, architectural pre-cast concrete and architectural cast stone and the inner dome is reinforced with plaster casts. This project recieved the National Design-Build Award from the Design-Build Institute of America.
