Two Kraft Projects Receive Green Building of America Award

August 19th, 2009

FT. MYERS, Fla. – Two Kraft Construction projects will be recognized with the Green Building of America Award by Real Estate and Construction Review. The Woodland Middle School project and the Northern Trust Bank project, both located in Ft. Myers, were selected to receive the green building honor and will be featured in the upcoming special edition of Real Estate and Construction Review’s -Southeast  Green Success Stories.

Woodland Middle School was the first LEED Registered school project in Sarasota County. Kraft used this as an opportunity to provide green building training and education for the project team and vendors to enhance their ability to meet green building requirements. The project completed on time and came in on budget.

Kraft also constructed the 16,300 square foot, two-story, Northern Trust Bank building incorporating multiple green building methods in the process including implementing construction indoor air quality, sediment control and waste diversion plans. Other green building design and construction features included storm water discharge management to reduce discharge to municipal services, low reflectivity roofing and parking to reduce heat island effect, efficient power management to maximize the use of natural light, and water efficient landscaping.  The project is seeking LEED Silver certification.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.
