Larry Rooney named President of Manhattan Construction Group

Naples, FloridaLarry Rooney has been promoted to president of Manhattan Construction Group, one of the country’s largest privately-held construction services companies. Its operating companies include Manhattan Construction Company, Manhattan Road & Bridge Company, Manhattan Pipeline, LLC, Manhattan International Construction Company, Ltd, Cantera Concrete Company, Spectrum Contracting, Inc. and Safezone, LLC. Manhattan Construction Group serves the commercial building, civil, pipeline and specialty construction markets through its regional offices in Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington, D.C.  Manhattan also provides construction services internationally in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

Rooney’s construction experience includes roles in field supervision, project management, estimating and pre-construction and a total revenue portfolio in excess of $ 1.5 billion. After working in Chicago for Turner Construction Company, Rooney joined the family business in Manhattan’s Houston regional office in 2010.  Rooney holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He is a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional (AP) and graduate of Leadership Tulsa Class 51. He serves on the board of the Tulsa Regional Chamber of Commerce and the advisory board of Tulsa’s American Cancer Society.

Rooney will also continue to serve as the regional manager for Manhattan Construction Company in Oklahoma and is the fifth generation of the Rooney Family to work at Manhattan.

Manhattan Construction Group wins National Safety Honors and eight ABC of Oklahoma Excellence In Construction Awards

Tulsa, Oklahoma – Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Oklahoma has honored Manhattan Construction Group companies with safety program honors and eight 2017 Excellence in Construction Awards. The accolades were presented at the ABC Oklahoma Excellence in Construction Awards Banquet on Thursday, October 26, 2017, in the Cox Business Center Grand Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

Manhattan Construction Co. received the ABC STEP Diamond Safety Award – the highest honor in the ABC Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Awards program. According to the ABC 2017 Safety Performance Report, STEP Diamond Achievers are 770% safer than the industry average. This is the seventh consecutive year for Manhattan Construction Co. to earn this honor.

Manhattan Construction Co. won the 2017 ABC Oklahoma Excellence in Construction Award in six categories for the following projects:

 

Prevarian Senior Living | Prairie House Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

 The Prairie House is a one-story, 21,288-square-foot, 32-bed memory care center with an attached two-story, 69,029-square-foot, 85-bed assisted living residence. The assisted living residence includes spacious upscale residential floor plans with amenities such as a restaurant-style dining room with a full service commercial kitchen, a private dining room for family gatherings, a card room, chapel, activities room, salon and spa, theater, art studio, library, laundry facilities and a wellness center with occupational and physical therapy rooms. The memory care center includes a full-service commercial kitchen, dining areas, laundry facilities, and community living areas.

River Spirit’s 1.2-million square-foot expansion includes a 1,200-space parking garage addition and features a Margaritaville casino and restaurant, a 2,500-seat theatre, and first-class convention and ballroom spaces. The defining feature is the 483-room, 27-story hotel tower. Other features include the new connector valet drive providing unity across a large campus and the outdoor Arkansas River waterfront area complete with swimming pools and a Landshark beach bar.

The 60-acre site includes four stand-alone buildings:  A two-story, 100,831-square-foot, full-service emergency hospital and clinic, a 7,960-square-foot Emergency Management Services building, a 2,221-square-foot facilities building, and a 7,045-square-foot wellness center.

 

St. John Health System | Hybrid OR-16 Renovation, Tulsa, Oklahoma

This project includes Endovascular Imaging Equipment Replacement and associated architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing improvements to the existing Hybrid Operating Room #16. The renovation area is approximately 1,130 square-feet, including the operating room and control room spaces.

The 24,658-square-foot renovation of the Neustadt wing of the library included multiple new study areas and conference spaces featuring architectural glass features and back-lit resin panels.

 

Tulsa County Jail Expansion, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The 43,000-square-foot expansion included the construction of four new pods, two mental health units and two transitional units. The mental health unit accommodates 98 beds and four levels of security with six close watch cells, ten isolation cells and ten segregation cells in one pod. The other pod has 72-dormitory style beds providing new alternatives to the mentally ill, the homeless and those suffering from addiction. The general population transitional units include 152 inmate beds in two pods.

 

 

Cantera Concrete Co. received the ABC STEP Gold Award and won two 2017 ABC Excellence in Construction Awards for their work on the following projects:

The River Spirit Casino Resort Phase II Expansion and Renovation included a 400,000-square-foot addition to the River Spirit Casino with complex foundations constructed in river bank sand and specialized Architectural finishes. Specialized concrete finishes included integral color with stamping and staining patterns, plus rock salt texture finishes at the attractive pool area. Cantera placed more than 30,000 cubic yards of concrete and nearly two million pounds of reinforcing steel.

Lake Murray State Park was a wide-spread job site with multiple buildings cast into the natural slopes of the landscape and along the water’s edge.  During construction, 4,100 cubic yards of concrete was placed in more than 3,000 linear feet of drilled pier shafts, 6,000 linear feet of foundations, 95,000 square feet of flat-work, and 21,000 square feet of concrete walls.
